Andres & Mugler 2013 Riesling Brut

RIESLING is the answer, no matter what the question. And sometimes only the sparkling (Sekt) version helps. This is one of my top fave bubbly makers in Pfalz. Even Stuart P. named them in connection with Dom P. and Roederer, and let’s just assume he knows what he’s talking about!

Two men with each their own wineries have this little Sekthaus as their shared project. They started in 1989 with 1000 liters as a trial. It worked! Today it is an organic winery, working with a Crémant press in order to achieve a crémant style wine with ultra fine foamy bubbles. This Sekt brings both worlds together with the brioche-like notes meeting mineral and golden Riesling fruit. The bottle I am showing has zero dosage and I love the freshness of citrus notes and its vivid acidity. Some yeastiness can be found too. Med body and a good finish. 🍾 It should be Sunday everyday!

I should add that their ’normal‘ Riesling brut comes with some dosage to show more of the terroir. This version here is made for a sommelier only, so it is a ’secret’….
